- The screen technology has been developed such that when in B&W book mode (screen flipped around and folded flat over the keyboard) it can still be read in full sun (African sun)
- When in book mode it can operate for something like 24 hours. In this mode it consumes <1.5watts
- The unit/keyboard is operational when submerged in up to 1.5 inches of water.
- Early models came with a hand crank to generate power to recharge the battery.
- The network is completely wireless. Every laptop is a receiver station as well as an access point. Together, the village community forms what's known as a 'nomadic mesh'. Each computer can act as a relay/router for the other computers. No need for a wired network, excepting the central broadband access point, and technically even that could be wireless/sattelite.

Kinda neat. I've seen refs before, but didn't know where they were with it. I guess it'll be some years before we see the fruits.
